Farzana Elham Kochai

Farzana Elham Kochai is a young parliamentarian who has dedicated her efforts to speak out about violence against women and girls, and works toward peacebuilding that recognises the importance of women’s inclusion. In her role as Member of Parliament, she has amplified her calls for equality and further advocates for the rights of minority group (the Kochi people); particularly their rights to be meaningfully included in the peace process.

Featured on Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls platform, she has used her voice to speak out against the use of violence on girls. Through her media appearances, notably interviews with Peace is Loud organization and on local television stations, Farzana has reflected on the realities of everyday life for women and girls in Afghanistan, and called for meaningful address of gender- and ethnic-based discrimination.
